PAINTER

Anwar Khan

"My painting like a silent song is a language without meaning even though my life has taken the form of an artistic pursuit and this expression gives colour to spirituality."

"My paintings are spiritual to me, as I search for a presence of divinity. It is also my search for reality and originality. I find a level of discriminity and purity in abstraction. I don’t need a form, title or a name for my paintings. I want to move away from the need to slot them.  This desire, makes me want to capture the depths of silence. Perhaps it is this need that makes the abstraction incomparable to expressionism. To me, apart from my painting, colour and form is life. In this search for an artistic transcendence, there is no structure that I can look to. My painting like a silent song is a language without meaning even though my life has taken the form of an artistic pursuit and this expression gives colour to spirituality."

Artist Biodata

Anwar Khan was born in Ambha in 1964. He did his Diploma in Fine Arts, Gwalior. The majority of his creations are systematically partitioned, establishing a distinction between two or three-dimensional impressions, all unified by a consistent color palette that spans the canvas. Anwar takes the initiative to grind his own pigments, resulting in the soft, subdued hues that form the foundation of his artwork. Employing dry pastels, he delicately marks these opaque layers, akin to calligraphy, occasionally incorporating woven or affixed painted materials onto the surface. Through this technique, the abstract artist generates compositions with a relief-like quality, conveying his complete range of thoughts and emotions in a lyrical manner.

He has had several shows in Bhopal, Gwalior, Mumbai, Chennai & New Delhi. His important participations are CMC art Gallery, Alliance Francaise De, Bhopal; Indo Syrian Art Exhibition; International Show Com-Art, Korea; The Gallery, London; 16th International Independent Exhibition, Japan; Bharat Bhawan International Biennial, Bhopal & Tate Art Gallery, London among many others. He has attended many Artists Camps and has received the All India Kalidas Award, Bharat Bhawan Scholarship, AIFACS, Honourable Mention National Exhibition, LKA, Delhi, Govt of India Fellowship, Delhi; National Award, LKA, Delhi & Govt. of India Senior Fellowship, Delhi. His works are in Important collections which include NGMA, Delhi; Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal and many other private collections in India and abroad. He lives and works in New Delhi.
