A collateral event with the India Art Fair 5th Edition
Tranquility, calmness, to be in peace with ones inner soul are words which we hardly experience or even hear in the busy and contemporary world we habituate today. Even till the extent that we do not pause and think for once. The pace of life has changed and has been set at a super speed. It is further effected by situations like separatism, terrorism, instability, various criminal acts and political issues taking place around us. Globalization being another major factor.
Through this show entitled Portrait of an Artist, the gallery has invited artists to create a head that reflects serenity and peaceful stillness that comes from introspection, reflection and revelatory experience like one sees in classical form of Buddha and the Tirthankaras that are still or sthira and shanta in such troubled times.
Each artist was provided a fibre head having similar facial features to create their individual expressions and thoughts in their signature style of painting. I am glad to say not only that some of the heads have turned out to be master pieces but also are an interactive medium with the viewer. I would like to thank all the participating artists for their contribution and effort. It is a matter of pride to me that I could hold this exhibition on the onset of our 75th year of promoting Indian Contemporary Art.
