Our painter is pictorial but entirely imaginative. Each work connecting up with the other. In this way both nostalgia and sadness come to us without fail. They all hint at the poverty of vision in which we presently subsist, with no marvels of brick, stone or stucco to exhilarate the passing pedestrian. The deep gay colors in which these structures are bathed, are as it were a shot of life to droopy, lackluster us. The painter applies his craft expertly but not woodenly, he is completely faithful to the spirit of what he espies of time, but never does the blackening element blemish the original tones of the ruins. It blends perfectly, to deepen the overall effect. At other places interiors are as though bathed with son and lumiere lights; the sounds, those of a ghostly music. Thus, PN Choyal evokes memory, with careful toning strategies. PN Choyal, born 1924, studied Fine Art Diploma, 1948; DTT, School of Arts & Crafts, Jaipur, 1946; Government Diploma, Painting, Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai, 1953; Slade College of Arts, University College, London, 1961-62; MA Hindi Lit., 1955.
