Krishnappa’s art is filled with music, dance, decoration & celebration. His calling comes from the striking of drums, whistle of the flutes and clarinets, full-throated songs of musical mendicants. He has seen them since his childhood, and the sight of these people with rich talents stands clearly etched in his memory. These simple people are neither beggars nor street corner performers. They belong to no particular region or religion: they are nomadic. They are humble men and women with amazing skills and abilities. For them, music and dance are part of everyday existence. They sing in different tunes and languages but their message is universal. They narrate stories from the epics; they sing high pitched hymns and solemn prayers. Above all, they entertain and educate everyone around them, day and night, for a handful of rice or bread. Artist Biodata

S Krishnappa, studied Art at Kala Mandir. Bangalore and Nutan Kala Mandir. Mumbai under the guidance of Messrs. A N Subba Rao, A A Almelkar, S N Joshi & H N Haldankar; received a Diploma in Fine Arts & served as Art Designer at Weaver’s Service Center till 2001. Awards: All India Exhibition Chitra Kala Parishad, 7972-77; Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy, I981 & 1983; Andhra Academy of Arts, 1974 – 77 and 87; National Handloom Expo, I987; G S Shenoy Memorial Award 2006 & various other Awards and honors. Solo Exhibitions: Galleria, Mumbai, 1998; Jehangir Art Gallery, 2003. Group Show: Art with a Heart, Bangalore; Chetak, Mumbai; The End of Silence, Chennai; National Exhibition, Delhi; Lalit Kala Academy Cultural Exchange Program, Shimla, Ahmedabad, Kerala, Goa; Andhra Academy of Arts – Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Delhi.
